Mexico City, February 23.- The Chamber of Deputies went into recess due to a clash of positions between Morena and PAN members over statements by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Justice, Arturo Záldivar, regarding the fact that former President Felipe Calderón carried out a state operation to protect the relatives of his wife, Margarita Zavala, who were involved in the ABC daycare center fire, where 49 children died.
The issue was brought to the floor by Morena member Azael Santiago Chepi when a ruling promoting the use of e-books was being discussed. "Today, the minister's statements prove that there was a state operation by a government that sought to curtail social movements through bloodshed, repression, and intimidation," he said.
He described Calderón's administration as a criminal, to which PAN member Arturo Espadas lamented that a "slanderous" political statement was made during the presentation of a ruling. That's cowardly.
The debate continued with the Morena party's proposal to create a commission to investigate the events at the ABC daycare center, while Jorge Triana, from the PAN party, responded that he was willing to create such a body as well as to form a commission on the case of José Ramón López Beltrán, son of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
