The Communications and Informatics Office of Nabire Regency, Central Papua, explained that PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk. is currently accelerating the recovery of disruptions to the Submarine Cable Communication System.
"PT Telkom is currently taking steps to accelerate the restoration of the Sulawesi–Maluku–Papua Cable System #2 (SMPCS#2) Submarine Cable Communication System (SKKL) for the Sorong–Merauke section," said Acting Head of the Nabire Regency Communications and Information Service, Yermias Degei, in a press release received .
According to Degei, internet network disruptions were reported to have occurred on August 16, 2025, due to a double shunt fault or short circuit at two points in Sorong and Merauke at a depth of between 50-500 meters.
