The Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPCI) of DKI Jakarta together with the Pelita Bangsa Inclusion Foundation (YIPB) held the NPCI DKI Table Tennis Championship 2025 at the Main Atrium of Pluit Village Mall, on August 8-10.
Organizing Committee Chair Cahaya Manthovani said the tournament, themed " Breaking Boundaries, " aims to introduce the abilities of disabled athletes to the public and identify potential talents who can compete internationally.
"Disability is not a barrier to achievement. In fact, they possess great enthusiasm and potential that can be an inspiration," Cahaya said in an official statement in Jakarta on Friday.
The championship featured 128 athletes with disabilities from 13 provinces and over 200 general participants. Competitions were divided into categories for both general and disability athletes, with a total prize pool of Rp180 million. Two main trophies were awarded to the provinces with the most medals in the general and disability categories.
Reda Manthovani, who is active in the Indonesian NPC and is also the Chef de Mission for the 2024 Paris Paralympics, said this event also serves as a warm-up for athletes currently undergoing national training camps in Karanganyar, Solo, in preparation for the 2026 ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
"They're here to test their skills and warm up, so they can find out their level before competing," he said.
Reda added that an athlete's success is not only determined by technical readiness, but also requires support from all sports stakeholders.
"Technical preparations will be useless without full support. As the CDM, my job is to orchestrate support to achieve the overall championship target at the upcoming ASEAN Para Games," said the man who also serves as the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel).
NPCI DKI Jakarta Chairman Yasin Onasie explained that this tournament is the first in Indonesia to bring together disabled and non-disabled athletes in one competition arena.
"We want the public to understand that athletes with disabilities have the same abilities and confidence to compete alongside non-disabled athletes, in the spirit of sportsmanship and unity," he said.
The competition still follows the official classification, including the division of categories for athletes with disabilities such as wheelchairs, amputees, or standing .
