OpenAI announced plans to build Stargate Norway, its first artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Europe, in partnership with British cloud infrastructure provider Nscale and Norwegian energy infrastructure company Aker.
As reported by Tech Crunch, this project will take the form of a 50/50 joint venture between Nscale and Aker, while OpenAI will be the "off-taker" or purchaser of capacity from the data center.
Nscale will design and build the facility, located near the small town of Narvik in northern Norway. The area was chosen for its access to hydropower, mild climate, and mature industrial base.
