Secretary General of the Indonesian Basketball Association Central Executive Board, Nirmala Dewi, wants the men's national team to provide a surprise at the 2025 FIBA U-16 Asia Cup in Mongolia.
He assessed that the opponents they faced in Group B of the Asian Cup for that age group, namely New Zealand, the Philippines, and Taiwan, were quite tough.
"We're hoping for a positive surprise from the boys' performance at this year's FIBA U-16 Asia Cup," Nirmala said when contacted from Jakarta on Thursday evening.
He stressed that the federation did not want to burden players with lofty targets.
Garuda Muda is only encouraged to play optimally or fight as hard as possible and minimize unnecessary mistakes during the match.
"Just getting through the group stage is an incredible experience for them," said Nirmala.
The Indonesian Badminton Association (Perbasi) has announced 12 players for the Mongolian championship, selected through a national selection process conducted by the National Team Body (BTN) in early August.
