Tijuana, August 14. After publicly avoiding the question of whether he would be willing to undergo a drug test, the mayor of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Jacobo Rodríguez González, of Morena, went to the Zamarrón Laboratory this Thursday, accompanied by members of his cabinet, to undergo a drug test . All of them tested negative, he said.
Rodríguez asserted that the measure is not due to political pressure, but rather to his willingness to be transparent.
The incident occurred after a tense exchange with a reporter, who asked him at his morning press conference on Wednesday if he would set an example by taking the test, as he had requested the day before of firefighters and other municipal personnel. The mayor replied that drug testing is carried out "on all personnel" and rebuked the journalist: "You never come to the morning press conference, and today you come here to try to attack me like that."
The council member asserted that the drug testing issue is part of a "political show" to harm him. He assured that he will continue working to maintain Piedras Negras as the safest border municipality in the country
