President Prabowo Subianto has used the case involving former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer as a warning to regional heads not to underestimate the law.
This was conveyed in a speech at the Apkasi Otonomi Expo 2025 event at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten, Thursday, which was attended by regent officials from all over Indonesia.
"I remind you, but sometimes people make mistakes. Maybe they think the Indonesian government is stupid, or that the Indonesian government I lead is weak, or that the Indonesian government I now lead can be bribed," he said.
President Prabowo's media team in Jakarta said that the figure in question was former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer (Noel), who has now been named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) in an extortion case related to the processing of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) certificates at the Ministry of Manpower.
Various assets, such as luxury cars and motorbikes, have been confiscated by the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) as evidence in this case.
The Head of State, who is also the General Chair of Gerindra, recalled once saying that he would not protect anyone, including members of his party who were involved in criminal acts of corruption.
Not long after delivering his statement at the Annual Session of the MPR/DPR/DPD RI on August 15, 2025, Noel was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK).
"I'm also sometimes horrified by my own words. At the MPR on August 15th, remember my speech? I said that even if a Gerindra member violated the law, I wouldn't protect them. A few days later, a Gerindra member was arrested, but he was a member, not a cadre yet," he said.
In various speeches, the Head of State has consistently emphasized to all state officials the need to refrain from corruption. As President of the Republic of Indonesia, he has sworn an oath to uphold the truth and fulfill his responsibilities to the nation and its people.
