Mexicali, August 15. Representative Daylín García presented a request to the Federal Government to finalize the signing of the binational agreement that will allow the operation of the Mesa de Otay II border crossing in Tijuana.
In presenting the motion, unanimously supported by legislators in the State Congress, the MC representative stated that "conceived in 2008 as part of the Border Master Plan between California and Baja California, Otay II seeks to alleviate congestion at the San Ysidro and Otay I crossings, streamline the movement of people and goods, strengthen foreign trade, attract investment, generate employment, and consolidate the region's economic growth."
He emphasized that the civil works constructed on the Mexican side by the Ministry of Defense, with an investment of nearly 6 billion pesos, are almost complete; rights of way have been cleared, and access roads and essential facilities have been built. The only remaining stage is the installation of the technical and technological equipment essential for its operation.
The representative explained that the decisive factor in completing the project is the signing of the agreement between the San Diego Association of Governments (Sandag) and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, an instrument that already has validated versions and the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
