Washington — Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) was forcibly removed Thursday by what appeared to be law enforcement officials when he interrupted a press conference in Los Angeles by DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who was discussing the Trump administration's response to ongoing protests in the city over immigration raids and President Donald Trump's mass deportation efforts.
“We’re not leaving,” Noem declared. “We’re staying here to free the city from the socialists and the oppressive leadership that this governor and this mayor have imposed on the country and what they’ve tried to impose on the city.”
At that point, Padilla, who had burst into the conference room, attempted to address the head of Homeland Security before being approached by FBI agents, who have said since the incident that they detained the senator after quickly removing him from the scene.
I'm Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary. Because the point is, half a dozen... "Don't touch!" the legislator was heard shouting as he was surrounded by law enforcement.
