Shock after Taliban behead volleyball team

Mexico City, October 22.- The captain of Afghanistan's youth volleyball team, Mahjubin Hakimi, was beheaded by the Taliban in Kabul, the team's coach, who uses the pseudonym Suraya Afzali, reported out of fear for her life.

Clarín , which reported on the Persian Independent , reported that the player was murdered earlier this month. Hakimi's family did not want to make the case public for fear of retaliation.

The Argentine newspaper reported that the volleyball player played for a municipal team in the Afghan capital before the Taliban took power. The coach added that only two of her teammates from the youth team managed to flee abroad, while the rest "had to escape and go into hiding," trying to seek "help from organizations and countries abroad without success."

A few weeks ago, the Argentine media outlet reported on its website that approximately "30 athletes from the Afghan volleyball team expressed their fear of violence and retaliation from the Taliban for their sports activities and asked the international community for help in leaving their nation."
