Six alleged perpetrators arrested after violent day in Ciudad Juárez

Mexico City, August 12. Following the violent incident yesterday in Ciudad Juárez, where nine people were murdered at the hands of organized crime and hitmen who shot civilians following a fight between rival gangs at the Social Rehabilitation Center (Cereso) 3, the federal government announced that six alleged perpetrators were arrested early Friday morning.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that “it's something that hasn't happened before and hopefully it won't happen again , because the innocent civilian population was attacked as a kind of retaliation; it wasn't just a confrontation between two groups, but there came a time when they started shooting at civilians, innocent people, and that's the most regrettable aspect of this matter .”

Undersecretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Ricardo Mejía, announced during the morning press conference that since the attacks became known , the federal agency has been in coordination with the state and municipal governments.

He reported at the National Palace that at 1:27 p.m. yesterday, a clash between rival gangs identified as Los Chapos and Los Mexicles was reported at Cereso 3 in Ciudad Juárez . The fight left two dead.
