The number of divorces in BC has increased in recent years: INEGI


 Tijuana, February 14.- The number of divorces in Baja California has been increasing year after year, as 7,959 legal separations were registered in 2023, while in 2022 there were 4,718, 197.3 percent more than in 2020, according to data from the State Civil Registry and the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

In the context of Valentine's Day, INEGI announced that 17,347 marriages were registered in the state in 2022, 54.2 percent more than in 2020. Of these unions, 2.8 percent were same-sex, while 13.7 percent occurred in March and 10.7 percent in February.

Of the 4,718 marriage dissolutions recorded in 2022, in 31.5 percent of cases, the marriage lasted more than 20 years. Regarding divorces and marriages, in 2020 there were 14 divorces for every 100 marriages, and in 2022 the figure increased to 27 divorces for every 100 marriages.

But the Baja Californian population still believes in love. In 2021, 71.6 percent of the population over 18 reported being in a relationship, and the majority declared they had a good relationship.
