Mexico City, February 14. The Nuevo León Congress must reinstate the procedure for electing the head of the state's Attorney General's Office, according to the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).
This is due to the fact that the procedures established by the Congressional Plenary for electing the state prosecutor were violated. These procedures were modified in November 2022, when members of the local Congress's Anti-Corruption Commission eliminated the requirement that candidates for the position present a letter confirming they have no criminal record.
The decision to modify the Plenary's resolution was made by the nine members of the Anti-Corruption Commission, and the procedure has been on hold since then, after the governor of that state, Samuel García, filed a constitutional dispute, and the Second Chamber ruled on the matter this Wednesday.
