Washington, August 19. U.S. President Donald Trump has directed his team to develop a framework for security guarantees that will contribute to achieving lasting peace in Ukraine, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday .
Preparations for a possible meeting between Putin and Zelensky are underway, and both sides have expressed their willingness to talk, Leavitt said at the press conference.
In an interview with Fox News earlier today, Trump said there would be no US troops on the ground, but indicated that the United States could assist in other ways, including air support.
Trump has once again categorically ruled out Ukraine's entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and seven European leaders at the White House on Monday, August 18, to discuss ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict .
The talks followed Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, August 15, where progress was reported but no agreement was reached.
