Tijuana Mayor recognizes women gaining ground in politics and the private sector

Tijuana, September 19.- The first democratically elected woman in the history of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, set an example of inclusion and transparency in her administration, with 50 percent of the public sector comprised of capable, hardworking women.

On International Equal Pay Day, organized by the U.S. Consulate General and marked on the calendar on September 18, Tanya Mota Alvarado, director of the Municipal Women's Institute (IMMUJER), representing the mayor, recognized those who are increasingly gaining ground in the business and political worlds.

In the presence of the United States Consul General in Tijuana, Thomas E. Reott, Mota Alvarado asserted that these pillars of her professional development demonstrate that she also knows how to make decisions in the political, social, and cultural spheres. Therefore, equal pay is not only a matter of justice and human rights, but also of economic development.

Also in the presence of Nora Vargas, the first Latina to lead the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and who received the keys to the city from Mayor Montserrat Caballero, the head of IMMUJER recalled that in the 21st century, women face inequalities in the workplace and although there has been progress in the fight for gender equality, there is still a long way to go.
