Tijuana's Civil Registry will launch the "I am Mexico" campaign in August.

Tijuana, Baja California, July 3, 2023.- The Tijuana City Council, through the Civil Registry Office, will launch the "I am Mexico" campaign in August to provide dual nationality certificates to citizens under 18 years of age born in the United States but to Mexican parents and to students of legal age, as long as they prove it with an official document.

This is in response to instructions from Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez and with the goal of benefiting border families, so that their children have this document and thus obtain legal certainty from their identity to access to education.

Civil Registry Officer 01, Georgina Bátiz Santillana, explained that the advantage of processing this document through "Soy México" is that the applicant will be exempt from paying the proof of non-existence of a state birth certificate, as well as the translation and apostille of the United States birth certificate.

For students over 18, applicants must present official documentation proving they are enrolled in their studies, either through a certificate or credential, Bátiz Santillana stated.

The "I Am Mexico" campaign is an initiative of the Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of the Interior, in partnership with states and municipalities.

In the 2022 campaign, carried out between October and November of this year, the Tijuana City Council received more than 6,000 applications to process the dual nationality certificate, thus benefiting the economy of these families, with an estimated savings of up to 5,000 pesos per registration.
