Two players on Vietnam's U-21 women's national volleyball team, Thi Hong Dang and Phuong Quynh, who are competing in the 2025 U-21 World Volleyball Championship, are suspected to be men.
In the final match of Pool A of the championship at the Jawa Pos Arena, Surabaya, East Java, Tuesday, Vietnam was unable to field the two players when facing Puerto Rico.
Dang and Phuong are currently undergoing a medical examination session from the tournament organizers.
"Athletes Dang Thi Hong and Phuong Quynh were randomly inspected in accordance with tournament regulations. During the inspection, the organizing committee also asked both athletes to complete their match records," the Vietnam Volleyball Federation wrote in a statement, as quoted by Thethaovanhoa.
