UABC creates app to offer health security for the return to school

Mexicali, June 7.- The Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) created the CimaPASS Cimarrón mobile app, which has been used since June to avoid crowds and allow for smoother entry through health checkpoints when classes resume.

The digital tool will allow members of the university community to answer a nine-question questionnaire related to the possible presence of symptoms associated with Covid-19.

It is hoped that by responding early, crowding will be avoided and entry through health checkpoints will be more fluid when classes resume.

How does the app work?

After completing the questionnaire, a QR code pass is generated, which is read by health checkpoint operators using the Centinela app. This app also captures users' body temperature readings, and this information is used to determine whether or not access is granted.

University community users who do not have a mobile device will be administered the questionnaire in person. Considering that not everyone has access to a data network, the health checkpoints are planned to be located where the university has wireless connectivity.

Furthermore, the data provided will allow for the generation of statistical information that can later be used for research purposes on the incidence of symptoms among members of the university community.

The app is available free of charge to all members of the university community using smartphones with iOS and Android operating systems; all that's required is an institutional email account.
