Mexicali, December 7.- The Autonomous University of Baja California Foundation (FUABC), with the support of more than 30 donors, awarded 52 international student mobility scholarships through the Wings, Opportunities to Fly program; three Almater scholarships for living expenses to health science students; and 50 laptops through the Providing Access program. This benefited 105 students from various academic units across the three university campuses.
The president of the FUABC Board of Directors, engineer Jorge Mario Arreola Real, noted that the delivery of the grants represents an opportunity to transform the lives of young Maroons who excel academically. "This opportunity gives us the chance to connect the donor with the scholarship recipient, clearly stating how and to whom the funds were donated. We are only the link to get the funds to the student, but it would not be possible without the tremendous response our appeal receives from the donors who have agreed to participate in this socially stimulating project," he added.
He indicated that those who participate in an international exchange program at a foreign university change their outlook and set new goals. He also noted that Providing Access continues to be an important program, supporting students with computer equipment for their school activities. Regarding the Almater scholarship, he emphasized that it has been supporting young Maroons for 10 years. "The Chee Chávez family has been characterized by its loyalty, dedication, and human quality, cultivating new generations with this support," said engineer Arreola Real.
For her part, the vice-rector of the UABC Mexicali Campus, Dr. Gisela Montero Alpírez, asked the scholarship recipients to fulfill their moral commitment so that in the future, when they graduate and lead productive lives, they will support another student in their same circumstances. This ensures the promotion of a culture of philanthropy and university social responsibility in the Maroon community.
