Mexicali, September 15.- The succession of the Rectorship at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) will take place next January, and according to the current rector, Daniel Octavio Valdez Delgadillo, they are preparing for it to be either a woman or a man.
She mentioned that they have made progress on the issue of gender equality in the educational institution, in combating gender violence, and in other equality issues.
Valdez Delgadillo commented that his term ends in January and that they have already begun defining topics for the forums organized by the Governing Board leading up to the election of the new rector.
As is known, the rector is elected by the Governing Board, a collegiate body made up of eleven members.
A few weeks ago, local representatives initiated the joint committees of Government, Gender Equality, and Youth to work on a reform that would implement gender parity in all important positions at the UABC.
Rector Valdez Delgadillo said he agrees with gender parity, but it must be implemented through an internal regulation to comply with the National Education Law.
He mentioned that he disagrees with what the deputies proposed, first the reform and then the consultation within the university.
