Vehicle theft decreases in Tijuana

Tijuana, April 23. So far in 2024, vehicle theft in Tijuana has been on the decline , registering a 15 percent decrease compared to last year, announced the head of the Municipal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPCM), José Fernando Sánchez González.

He explained that this was achieved thanks to coordinated work with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), as the SSPCM is responsible for prevention, keeping records of the areas and times when this crime occurs in order to conduct surveillance patrols.

In the case of the FGE, this agency is responsible for investigating car-stealing gangs, bringing the criminals before a judge, and conducting inspections at junkyards , which are the locations where vehicles are sold.

Sánchez González acknowledged that "there are still many vehicles being stolen," especially in the Centro Zone , which is the largest district in the city and where this crime is most reported.

In this regard, he emphasized the importance of registering all vehicles circulating in the municipality in a database so they can be identified in case they are used in crimes.
