Whale caught in net in Ensenada Bay

Whale caught in net in Ensenada Bay

Ensenada, April 1. A video was posted on social media showing a cetacean (apparently a fin whale) caught in a coastal fishing net in Ensenada Bay.

Daniel Ponce, a fisherman from Ensenada, shared several videos on his Facebook account taken off the coast of the Esteban Cantú community. He said he came across the entangled whale around 10 a.m. this Wednesday .

At the site, a seal was also entangled and they were able to free it, however, the operation to release the whale is more complicated and they notified the Navy and the Federal Attorney's Office for Environmental Protection.

According to the civil association Whale Ecology and Conservation, when you find an entangled whale, it is important to report it to the authorities or to organizations like this one, which have specialized rescue equipment.

When reporting the incident, it's recommended to send photos and videos of the whale, as well as the exact location . If possible, stay close to the whale until the rescue team arrives, at a distance of at least 240 meters.
