Tijuana, May 9.- Mexican Olympic athlete Paola Espinosa announced her retirement from diving and platform sports on social media after a 28-year career of “many ups and downs, a lot of happiness, and many incredible moments spent in the pool.”
The diver competed in four Olympic Games representing Mexico: Beijing (2008), London (2012), Rio (2016) and Tokyo (2020).
She also won medals at world championships, the Pan American Games, the Central American and Caribbean Games, and the Universiade, and in 2019 she was awarded the National Sports Award for Outstanding Sports Career.
At 35, she decided to retire, asserting that she did everything she wanted and that she is satisfied with the achievements she obtained throughout her career.
She said she doesn't regret devoting so much time to sports, "but today I want to live and prove to myself that there's time for everything."
In the message, he thanked his coach, Iván Bautista, his family, friends, and sponsors, "and all the people who have enjoyed my diving and supported me throughout all these years."
The two-time Olympic medalist stated that she has many projects with the Paola Espinosa Foundation and "more dreams to fulfill" that she will soon share.
