"There are multinational armies operating in various parts of the world to protect innocent people," Ibáñez said in press statements. "Spain must act within a legal framework to obtain a mandate from the United Nations and participate in an international coalition to defend a people being subjected to a massacre."

This comes amid a worsening diplomatic crisis between Madrid and Tel Aviv, following Israeli accusations of "anti-Semitism" against Spain. The accusations came after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's government announced a nine-point package of sanctions against Israel in response to the ongoing massacre of Palestinians in Gaza for nearly two years.

The sanctions, unveiled by Sanchez on Monday, include a ban on arms exports to Israel, a ban on ships carrying fuel for its military from docking in Spanish ports, and a ban on aircraft carrying defense equipment using Spanish airspace.

The decisions also include banning the entry into Spain of those involved in genocide and war crimes, and prohibiting the import of products from Israeli settlements.

In response, Tel Aviv imposed sanctions on two Spanish ministers—Deputy Prime Minister and Labor Minister Yolanda Díaz and Youth and Children Minister Sira Rigo—by barring them from entering Israel. Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar launched a sharp attack on Madrid, alleging that it was "leading a hostile and anti-Semitic line."

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, leaving 64,656 Palestinians dead and 163,503 injured, most of them children and women. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and 404 Palestinians, including 141 children, have been killed by famine.
