Amid mariachis and thousands of backlogs, the PJF reopens

Yesterday, a long line of people and litigants formed outside the offices of the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) in San Lázaro. It took several hours for the courts to process or file injunctions. After 85 days of suspension of activities, the last bastion of protests against judicial reform returned to work with thousands of files backed up.

This building, which was the first to begin the strike on August 19, is one of the most emblematic; it employs approximately 4,000 people and houses 63 courts and tribunals for civil, forfeiture, commercial, and auxiliary matters.

Attorney Édgar Daniel arrived with 100 direct and indirect labor protection cases. He arrived accompanied by a colleague to use handcarts to move the enormous packages, which were heavy due to the volume of pages.

It's quite a lot of work. There are 70 files here, although we still have 30 more to go. It will take me about three hours to process them. During the strike at the Judiciary, the workload piled up, as we continued working. I think it's a good thing they're restarting activities, as the country can't be left without laws and justice. Clients were worried about when their injunctions would be filed, as their overall security remained uncertain.

While workers celebrated with mariachi music for judges and magistrates who declined to participate in the 2025 election, dozens of people stood outside the building under the harsh sunlight. Some, desperate, received directions to enter the courthouse.

In the main courtyard, the judges were honored in the form of a walkway. Two cloth bands bearing the colors and symbol of the Mexican flag were placed on the ground at the edge of the pavement for the honorees to walk on. However, they were trampled due to the tumult of the workers. Meanwhile, mariachis played "  El son de la Negra ,"  "El rey  ," and  "A mi manera."
