Artist turns border fence into canvas for “Mutual Embrace” mural

Tijuana, July 1. Artist Alfredo Libre will create the mural "Mutual Embrace," which reflects the cultural diversity of the north and south, on the stretch of border wall in Friendship Park in Playas de Tijuana.

Libre mentioned that his work seeks to reflect the connection between communities .

“The piece speaks of the mutual embrace between species and between human beings,” he emphasized.

He added that there is no better place than the border wall for this work of brotherhood, since it is important in these times to send a message of unity .

"It's a proposal for harmony and to take advantage of this hideous wall to give it a more open and artistic message and character," he said.

He added that the golden eagle, which symbolizes northern cultures, and the condor, which reflects southern cultures, are the main elements of the painting.

To create the mural, he has collaborated with 10 assistants, with whom he hopes to unveil the work on July 19.

He noted that the design of the mural wasn't difficult, as he designed it with the intention of highlighting Tijuana's culture.
