Ávila denies Kurt Honold's pressure on Tecate mayor to reopen Temarry

Ensenada, April 28.- "It's more of a coordination between the different levels of government (...) what a shame that a conversation is interpreted as pressure," said Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila regarding the interpretation of the mayor of Tecate, Darío Benítez, regarding a comment by the Secretary of Economy, Kurt Honold Morales, regarding the reopening of the Temarry recycling plant that had been closed due to a spill.

"The Secretary of Economy is speaking with the mayor in this case. It's a simple conversation. Rather than seeing it as pressure, I think it's a topic of conversation... what a shame that a conversation is interpreted as a type of pressure," the president said about the call.

On his Facebook account, Darío Benítez stated that he and his family have received threats for closing the Temarry recycling plant on March 25th, due to the plant's failure to fully comply with municipal regulations.

Days later, on April 3, he reported to the media that the state Secretary of Economy, Kurt Honold, had called him to ask him to let the plant restart operations, telling him that if he didn't, "a hell of a lot of shit will come down on you," which the mayor of Tecate considered a threat and declared that he had lost confidence in state authorities.
