BC ranks second in the nation for maquiladora industry jobs: Index

Tijuana, March 8 – With 395,000 workers, Baja California's maquiladora industry ranks second only to Chihuahua in terms of the number of direct jobs, according to information from the Maquiladora and Export Industry Association (Index).

Chihuahua has more than 400,000 jobs in the maquiladora industry, but Baja California currently has more than 18,000 vacancies in the city of Tijuana alone, confirmed Pedro Montejo Peterson, president of INDEX Costa Zone.

"We have a projection that is higher than the national average (in growth); the national average is 5%, our projection is 7%," Montejo Peterson emphasized.

Migration

Due to this growth in the industry and the vacancies, labor migration to the state is also expected to continue, in addition to the other migratory movements that have occurred in the state, which is why Index Costa Zone has taken these individuals into account.
