Cybersecurity and digital privacy company Kaspersky has detected phishing practices using fake university login pages targeting students and lecturers.
Phishing is a form of cyber crime that aims to steal sensitive information, such as personal data, accounts or financial information, by deceiving the victim.
According to a press release received on Sunday, the attackers deployed fake login portals that mimicked the university's official website, tricking users into entering credentials that could result in data theft or complete loss of access to their campus accounts.
Links to these phishing portals are distributed via email or appear in web search results when searching for academic institutions' login pages.
