Tijuana, June 23.- The Tijuana State Public Services Commission (CESPT) launched a reporting campaign to curb water theft, illegal logging, and vandalism in the agency's facilities and infrastructure.
The Director of Citizen Assistance and Outreach at Cespt, Héctor Gutiérrez, announced that they intend to reduce water losses by up to 20 percent.
Using the term "citizen empowerment," he said the state-owned company receives daily reports and complaints about water theft through illegal taps, as well as the destruction of facilities, which constantly causes a lack of supply in some neighborhoods of the city.
"The vandals have found a way to live, stealing wiring and even motors. We've caught the thugs with motors in their hands, even running with them," he emphasized.
Héctor Gutiérrez explained that part of "citizen empowerment" involves the Social Oversight Department, working to bring services closer to the population, as was the case with the introduction of drinking water to the Cumbres neighborhood in Playas de Rosarito, with an investment of 11 million 567 thousand pesos.
He explained that the comptroller's office has installed a tank to supply water to this community, and all that remains is to schedule a date for its inauguration.
He mentioned that the Villa del Campo neighborhood, as well as Valle Redondo, periodically runs out of water as a result of vandalism.
Small businesses, large corporations, and ranches have all been found illegally connected to communal water connections.
