Tijuana, July 16.- Members of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), accompanied by the Public Ministry, evicted just over a thousand people who were illegally settled on a property located on Cerro de las Abejas.
Around 70 Municipal Police units and at least 150 members of the Tijuana SSPC responded to assist in the eviction of the "invaders" located on the hill in the Cañadas del Florido neighborhood, Calle Tres neighborhood, La Presa borough, in the East Zone of Tijuana.
Authorities informed the residents that they have 72 hours to vacate the property voluntarily. Failure to do so will result in a fine and the use of public force.
So far, families living in the area have responded positively to the appeal, so it is hoped the property will be cleared soon.
City Hall will build a sports park on the property
Through a press release, the Tijuana City Council announced that the Secretariat of Territorial, Urban, and Environmental Development (SDTUA) will work on the sports park project on the 76,000-square-meter site on the southern side of Cerro de las Abejas.
The land where the park is planned to be built is the same one where human settlements have been developed, on the southern part of Cerro de las Abejas, which is owned by the municipality. For this reason, it was agreed to urge families to leave so that work can begin on demarcating the land, placing a fence that will allow for the continuation of the relevant studies—which were completed on July 12—for the development of the Sports Park.
For its part, the SDTUA detailed that human settlements have also been developing in the northern part of Cerro de las Abejas, one of them in the state-owned polygon and another on a privately owned property.
