China's Market Regulatory Authority ruled that the US semiconductor giant Nvidia had violated its country's antitrust regulations.According to a Bloomberg report cited in a TechCrunch broadcast on Monday (September 15), the ruling refers to Nvidia's acquisition of Melanox Technologies, a computer networking provider, in 2020 with an acquisition value of US$7 billion at the time (approximately Rp. 114.5 trillion now).
Responding to the ruling, an Nvidia spokesperson said the company would comply with applicable regulations.
"We comply with the law in all respects. We will continue to cooperate with all relevant government agencies in evaluating the impact of export controls on competition in commercial markets," he said.
China has not yet announced the consequences Nvidia will face in relation to its findings and is continuing its investigation.
However, the decision is likely to have a negative impact on the tariff negotiations between the United States and China currently underway in Madrid, Spain.
The talks did not specifically address the semiconductor industry, but the question of China's access to Nvidia chips was a key point of contention between the two governments.
