Tijuana, May 20. The Tijuana City Council issued a press release stating, "categorically, that Mayor Monserrat Caballero has always maintained a respectful stance toward the candidates and the electoral process that will determine her successor."
Without providing details of the clarification, he shared a link to the mayor's Facebook page where she published an excerpt of a leaked audio recording, in which she supposedly met with the National Action Party candidate, Maricarmen Flores, for mayor of Tijuana. They discussed, among other things, the candidacy of Morena member Ismael Burgueño Ruiz.
"I don't want to take down any candidate, nor did the Governor want to take me down. We at Morena continue working together," the mayor states on her website.
Meanwhile, Maricarmen Flores denied that any meeting with the mayor had taken place and, in response to a direct question, reaffirmed her position by forwarding the City Council's press release.
The bulletin states that "today, a disinformation and manipulation campaign has been detected using artificial intelligence technologies with the aim of destabilizing and discrediting the Fourth Transformation movement. This campaign seeks to sow doubt and confusion among citizens through fake news and statements that are inconsistent with reality and defy the democratic principles we promote.
"Municipal President Monserrat Caballero reiterates her commitment to transparency, truth, and absolute respect for the electoral process, and emphatically continues her dedication to working for the well-being of all Tijuana residents.
"We call on citizens to stay informed through official channels and reliable media outlets and to avoid being misled or swayed by unfounded rumors.
"We thank you for your attention and cooperation in maintaining a clean, orderly, and respectful electoral process.
