Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra expressed his full support for the Civil Society Coalition's efforts to accelerate the codification of the Election Bill.
According to him, the push for accelerated codification conveyed at the audience was important as part of the national political reform agenda.
"The government is serious about implementing political reforms, and this has been part of President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita agenda," Yusril said in a press conference following the hearing.
Regarding the request for the Election Bill to be prepared by an independent team, Yusril emphasized that the preparation of the Election Bill, the Political Party Bill, and the MD3 Bill should involve non-partisan parties, activists with no direct interests, academics, and practitioners.
Thus, he hopes that the resulting legal product can truly be used as the government's main reference.
He also agreed that fundamental changes in the party and election systems must be made.
"Democratization cannot be achieved without legal reform. Therefore, we welcome the draft proposal prepared by the Civil Society Coalition and feel free to use it as a starting point for the government's reference," he said.
