The Football Institute analyzed the performance data of Indonesian national team coaches from the Shin Tae-yong (STY) era, Patrick Kluivert to the Indonesian U-23 national team coach Gerrard Vanenburg.
Football Institute founder Budi Setiawan stated that STY, Patrick Kluivert, and Gerard Vanenburg's performance in their first year wasn't significantly different. He added that there wasn't a significant difference in statistical terms.
"However, if we're talking about mental pressure and support, Patrick Kluivert has to face the pressure of qualifying for Round 4 of the World Cup Qualifiers, and Gerard Vanenburg is under pressure to qualify for the U23 Asian Cup and the 2028 Olympics," Budi said in an official statement on Friday.
Since 2021, Shin Tae-yong has officiated 21 matches for the Indonesian U-23 national team. He has won 11 matches and lost 10 matches, with no draws. In all those matches, his team has scored 57 goals and conceded 42.
In his first year, the South Korean coach bagged two wins from a total of four matches or achieved a 50 percent win percentage, but also recorded two defeats.
In his first AFF U-23 tournament, he won a bronze medal after a penalty shootout victory over Malaysia. However, his progress in the first U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers was halted after a defeat to Australia.
