Tiranga, September 12.- Policarpio "N," originally from Hidalgo, was arrested on September 11 in Tijuana during his day off, after remaining a fugitive for more than three decades for a homicide committed while he was a preventive police officer in the then Federal District, the State Attorney General's Office reported in a statement.
The now-detained officer was conducting a routine search of two people on a public street in Mexico City. According to the investigation, when citizens opposed the search, a fight broke out in which the officer used his service weapon, injuring one person and killing another.
After the incident, the defendant fled and settled in Tijuana, where he managed to join the Municipal Police in 1994. For 31 years, he served as an active officer without authorities realizing that he had an outstanding arrest warrant for aggravated homicide. He ceased to be an active officer until the day of his capture.
The capture was achieved thanks to a coordinated operation between federal, state, and municipal authorities, who located the fugitive.
