Gaza under fire and hunger: Investigation reveals Israeli snipers deliberately targeting civilians

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Wednesday that the death toll from the Israeli genocide since October 7, 2023, has risen to 64,656 martyrs and 163,503 wounded.

The ministry explained in its daily statistical statement that the death toll since the resumption of the aggression on March 18, 2025, has reached 12,098 martyrs and 51,462 wounded, while the number of deaths resulting from starvation and malnutrition has risen to 404 cases, including 141 children, according to the statement.

The statement indicated that the number of "aid-seeking" victims has risen to 2,456 martyrs and 17,861 wounded since May 27.

The ministry also stated that hospitals in the Gaza Strip had received 41 martyrs and 184 injured in the past 24 hours, confirming that a number of victims were still under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached.

Massacres and destruction of residential towers

Since dawn on Wednesday, the Israeli occupation army has launched a series of massacres that have resulted in 26 martyrs, including 15 from one family, in northern and central Gaza.

In the most prominent attack, 15 Palestinians from one family were killed, along with another Palestinian, when tents housing displaced people in the Shalihat area west of the city were targeted.

Meanwhile, the Taiba 2 residential tower in the same area was targeted, killing two Palestinians and displacing thousands. According to eyewitnesses, the tower was targeted by Israeli warplanes after a short warning to evacuate it, despite the presence of thousands of displaced people in its vicinity. The building became the seventh multi-story tower to be destroyed in five days.

Northwest of the city, a Palestinian was killed when an Israeli airstrike targeted a gathering of civilians near the "Al-Jisr" area in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, while the army continued to launch raids targeting several areas in the same neighborhood.

In the southern Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation forces killed four Palestinians, including two children, when they shelled civilians on Jalal Street in the center of Khan Yunis.

Investigation reveals the crimes of the "Ghost Squad"

In this context, the British newspaper The Guardian published an extensive five-month investigative report yesterday, Tuesday, in cooperation with international partners, revealing the involvement of an Israeli sniper unit known as "Refaim" or "Ghosts," which includes dual nationals, in the deliberate killing of Palestinian civilians.

The investigation, conducted in cooperation with the Arab Reporters for Investigation (ARIJ), Paper Trail Media, Der Spiegel, and ZDF, revealed that snipers killed four members of the Daghmash family on November 22, 2023, in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, including Salem Daghmash (19 years old), who was killed while trying to retrieve the body of his brother, Mohammed.

American-Israeli sniper Daniel Rapp admitted to participating in the killing of civilians, asserting that his team killed 105 people, including unarmed Palestinians, in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood and around Barcelona Park.

The report indicated that the "Refaim" unit includes 11 members of various nationalities (the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Azerbaijan), most of whom hold Israeli citizenship.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

In addition to the martyrs and wounded, most of whom were children and women, the genocide left more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
