Mexicali, January 26.- Baja California registered a 27 percent annual increase in the value of manufacturing production between November 2023 and November 2024, ranking as the fourth-highest-performing state in this area nationwide. Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda highlighted the strength, dynamism, and competitiveness of the sector, reaffirming its importance as an economic engine in the state.
He indicated that based on the Monthly Survey of the Manufacturing Industry of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), Baja California reported a manufacturing production value of 21.633 billion pesos in November 2024, accumulating 216.660 billion pesos from January to November of that year.
"With this, we are consolidating an environment conducive to economic development, reaffirming the state's strategic position as a benchmark in manufacturing across the country," the president emphasized.
He noted that the manufacturing sector, which represents 36.1 percent of the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), also leads the way in formal employment generation, providing 42.7 percent of the positions registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), demonstrating the importance of this sector as a pillar of the region's economy.
Activities
He also detailed that among the productive activities, the manufacturing of transportation equipment stands out with a 51.9 percent share, followed by the food industry with 12.2 percent of the total amount, reflecting the diversification and innovation of the state industry, strengthening its competitiveness nationally and internationally.
The governor mentioned that through the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, they are working with the private sector to consolidate this sustained growth through policies to attract investment and promote innovation.
