Member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Syarif Fasha, is targeting the completion of the revision of Law Number 30 of 2009 concerning Electricity by 2026 to ensure the public's access to electricity.
"God willing, this revised law will be passed no later than 2026. This way, the public will not only have guaranteed access to electricity but also fair access to it," Syarif said in an official statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
He stated that energy transformation, including the planned transition to renewable energy, will be incorporated into the revised Electricity Law. This step aims to realize the energy transition roadmap prepared by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
"The government, along with stakeholders , has prepared a roadmap , including a target for the renewable energy mix by 2029," Syarif said.
Commission XII, which oversees the energy and mineral resources (ESDM) sector, also highlighted the implementation of the village electricity program, which aims to ensure the availability of electricity in the 3T (remote, frontier, and outermost) regions.
"PLN is also implementing a village electricity program in accordance with the President's directive to ensure 100 percent of the community has access to electricity," he said.
Regarding the high subsidies for the energy sector, Syarif believes it is important for legislators to strengthen regulations so that electricity subsidies are truly targeted.
With targeted subsidies, Syarif believes that energy justice will be realized in the country.
"We don't want subsidies to be enjoyed by groups who aren't entitled to them. Through this revision to the law, we want to ensure that the implementing regulations are clearer and more stringent," he said.
Syarif emphasized the need to accelerate the revision of Law Number 30 of 2009 concerning Electricity, which is already 15 years old.
According to him, many articles in the law no longer reflect the need for energy independence and justice for the people.
