La Paz, Baja California Sur, Tropical Storm Ileana caused severe flooding in San José del Cabo, primarily in units 6 and 38 of the Mexican Social Security Institute. The rains from September 12 to 14 in the municipal seat of Los Cabos caused landslides on dirt roads, hill collapses, flooding of streams that disrupted vehicular traffic, the closure of ports, and the cancellation of 50 domestic and international flights, affecting the arrival and departure of more than 7,000 passengers.
At the eighth session of the State Civil Protection Council, authorities led by Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío reported that the rains had stopped this Saturday, prompting the return of 200 people sheltered in temporary shelters in La Paz and Los Cabos.
They mentioned that the buildings that served as shelters will be cleaned and disinfected before classes resume at all educational levels next Tuesday, which were suspended on Friday.
Prohibition was also lifted, and debris removal, road repairs and clearance, and the filling of a sinkhole in the community of Santiago began.
They reported that the water and electricity outages in San José del Cabo and La Ribera, as well as the drainage at Clinic 6 and the IMSS General Hospital Zone No. 38, were repaired overnight, using emergency equipment from Conagua.
Ports have reopened to small craft navigation, while airlines that had suspended flights have resumed operations and rescheduled canceled flights for this Saturday.
Authorities reported the recovery of 35 vehicles in Los Cabos, as well as a "zero toll" in terms of injuries and deaths caused by the storm.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that Tropical Storm Ileana passed near the coast of Baja California Sur but did not make landfall, so the center of the cyclone is heading toward the coasts of the states of Sinaloa and Sonora.
