According to Israel's Channel 12 (private), the attack targeted "the head of the Hamas negotiating delegation, Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the political bureau, Zaher Jabarin, and the Hamas official abroad, Khaled Meshaal."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement from his office: "Israel initiated and carried out this operation and bears full responsibility for it."
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said, via the American platform X, that the security cabinet approved the attack in Qatar.
Ben-Gvir, leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, described the decision to attack as "another historic decision in a series of important decisions we have made." At the end of his post, he quoted Psalm 18, verse 38: "I will pursue my enemies and overtake them; I will not return until I have destroyed them. I will crush them so that they cannot rise again; they will fall under my feet."
Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich wrote on Twitter that those he claimed were "terrorists have no immunity from Israel anywhere in the world."
For its part, Israel's Channel 14 reported that "the air operation was carried out deep inside Qatar from a distance of 1,800 kilometers, with approximately ten Israeli fighter jets participating." It added that the aircraft "dropped more than ten precision munitions simultaneously... and Israel is verifying the results of the operation."

In a related development, a White House official confirmed Tuesday that Israel had informed the United States in advance of the airstrikes it carried out against Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital.

Earlier on Tuesday, Qatar announced that Israel had launched a "cowardly attack targeting the residential headquarters of several members of Hamas's political bureau in Doha," adding that it had "launched an investigation and will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behavior."
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera quoted an unnamed Hamas source as saying that the movement's negotiating delegation, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, survived an Israeli bombardment targeting it during a meeting in Doha.
Doha has been hosting Hamas leaders for years, and Doha and Cairo have been leading mediation since the start of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. Their efforts resulted in two truces, in December 2023 and January 2025.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving 64,605 Palestinians martyred, 163,319 wounded, most of them children and women, hundreds of thousands displaced, and a famine that has claimed the lives of 399 Palestinians, including 140 children.
