Janice Tjen made history as the first Indonesian tennis player to reach the WTA semifinals after successfully advancing to the quarterfinals in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Friday (12/9) local time or Saturday WIB.
In her WTA tour debut, Janice became the first Indonesian player to reach a WTA semifinal in 23 years since Angelique Widjaja won the title at Pattaya City in 2002, according to WTA records.
Previously, Janice also made history by ending Indonesia's long wait for a women's singles player at a Grand Slam, after last being represented by Angelique Widjaja at the 2004 US Open.
