Kylian Mbappe scored his 50th goal for Real Madrid after scoring two penalties in a dramatic 2-1 victory over Marseille in the Champions League group stage at the Santiago Bernabeu, saying he was simply following the coach's instructions.
Mbappe has insisted he is ready to follow Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso's tactics, which require players to counter-attack and press their opponents quickly when they lose the ball.
"I feel very good. I'm not thinking about being one of the team's leaders; I'm thinking about being myself, Kylian, and the team," he said, as quoted by ESPN.
Real Madrid had fallen behind to Timothy Weah's 22nd-minute goal, but Mbappé equalized with a penalty seven minutes later and converted another penalty in the final minutes. The goal marked Mbappé's personal record of 50 goals in 64 appearances for Los Blancos.
"Xabi wanted us to win the ball back quickly. We had to understand what we had to do, and then we were determined to do it because we wanted to win," said Mbappe.
