Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms suspension of high-level agri-food meeting

Mexico City, April 25.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) confirmed this Tuesday that the First High-Level Meeting for Agrifood Integration, scheduled for May 6 and 7 in Cancún, was postponed following the positive COVID-19 diagnosis of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

As this newspaper reported, diplomatic sources indicated that the rescheduling of the summit, which was scheduled to include the participation of several Latin American presidents, was made last night.

Working sessions

López Obrador will inaugurate the trade promotion activities and the working sessions for the heads of delegations of the countries participating in the summit, according to the Foreign Ministry, which indicated that the summit will be tentatively rescheduled for June.

The Foreign Ministry added that there were also requests "from several countries to change the date of the event."

The meeting will be the result of the commitments made by the President and the heads of state and government who participated in the Anti-Inflation Summit on April 5, convened by López Obrador and attended virtually by the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio "Lula" da Silva; Argentina, Alberto Fernández; Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; and Chile, Gabriel Boric, among others.

"While the exact date for the High-Level Meeting on Agrifood Integration is being determined, technical and logistical work continues among the countries of the region under the coordination of the Mexican Foreign Ministry," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, adding that it "will provide timely information on the progress of these activities."
