The federal government will not modify any radio and television licenses and will renew those that expire, even if concessionaires and media outlets " turn up the volume " on their criticism of the 4T, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated this Friday.
"We're not going to touch the radio and television licensees with even a rose petal. Full freedoms. And if some licenses expire in the time I have left, we're going to renew them, and those that have expired have been renewed, because that's the instruction," the president said at his regular press conference at the National Palace.
"Television and radio licenses are guaranteed; there won't be any problems, even if the volume increases. We won't commit any act that violates freedom of expression and demonstration, even if it goes too far," he asserted.
He added that his administration will not "change the rules regarding radio and television licenses. What we are doing is providing significant support to community radio stations so they can obtain their licenses, because they do important social work."
He pointed out that in the face of criticism and campaigns against him, he has his " guardian angel , which is the people," and he trusted that the media would limit and balance themselves .
Regarding Threads, the new social network owned by Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg, he said he sees it as a positive, "because it's great to have competition."
He recalled that he opened a Threads account, where he posted a message yesterday asking Zuckerberg not to focus on profit-making on his new platform and to prevent it from being filled with bots, in order to avoid information manipulation and ensure that the communication disseminated there is authentic.
