Recognition of Afro-Mexican peoples is now law: Senate

Tijuana, February 7.- Throughout Mexico, there is a presence of people of African descent who share their origins, history, and cultural elements.

To recognize the contributions of Afro-Mexican peoples and communities to the country's multicultural makeup, the Senate approved a reform to Article 2 of the Constitution.

This guarantees their self-determination, autonomy, development and social inclusion.

Its recognition in the Magna Carta is now enshrined in law as one of the country's three cultural, social, and historical roots.
