Badminton legend Richard Mainaky, who is also part of the talent scouting team for the 2025 PB Djarum General Auditions, believes the quality of young athletes is becoming more evenly distributed.
This was stated by Richard while monitoring the 2025 PB Djarum auditions attended by athletes from 34 provinces including Papua at the Djarum Sports Hall, Jati, Kudus, Central Java, Monday.
"In terms of quality, everything is almost the same. From Manado, Papua, to Java, the hitting style , footwork, and even racket grip techniques are almost the same," said Richard.
According to Richard, many former national athletes who now train in various remote areas have contributed to this equalization of quality.
However, according to Richard, technical ability isn't the sole determinant of an athlete's success. He emphasized the importance of attitude and a fighting spirit during training.
"Attitude is the most dominant factor. Many people fail because of their bad attitude , even though they are technically good," said Richard.
