Rolling Stone owner sues Google over "AI Summary" feature

Google is facing a new lawsuit, this time from a news publisher and the owner of Rolling Stone, alleging that it illegally used the publisher's content to create AI (artificial intelligence) summaries that are damaging its business.

The company that filed the lawsuit is Penske Media Corporation (PMC) and is known to own many other publications besides Rolling Stone such as Billboard, Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Vibe, and Artforum.

As reported by TechCrunch, Sunday (14/9), this lawsuit is the first lawsuit filed by PMC against Google and its parent company, Alphabet. In fact, this step has been taken by many other publishers and authors who also feel disturbed by the way the "AI Summary" feature works due to copyright issues.

"As a leading global publisher, we have an obligation to protect PMC's top journalists and award-winning journalism as a source of truth," said Penske Media CEO Jay Penske in a statement.
