Sabar/Reza focus on preparing mentally for the Hong Kong Open quarterfinals

Men's doubles badminton players Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi are focused on preparing mentally for the quarterfinals of the 2025 Hong Kong Open.

Sabar/Reza will later meet the Taiwanese pair Fang Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee in a match that will take place at the Hong Kong Colliseum, Hong Kong.

"Preparations for the quarterfinals are focused on recovery and more technical and mental preparation. Because we lost 1-2 in the head-to-head match against our opponent, we won yesterday, and there might be a tough match tomorrow, so we can't let our guard down," said Sabar, as quoted by PBSI on Thursday.

Sabre, the nickname for this pair, has met the Taiwanese pair three times throughout their professional career. Sabar/Reza have only managed one win and two losses.

However, in their last meeting, Sabar/Reza defeated Fang Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee in two straight games in the semifinals of the 2025 Macau Open which took place on August 2.

Sabar/Reza advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Japanese pair Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi in a three-game drama, 20-22, 21-18, 21-17 in the round of 16 match held at the Hong Kong Colliseum, Hong Kong, on Thursday.

"In the first game, I felt a little uneasy at the end of the point, perhaps because of the adrenaline rush at 20-19, which made me want to end the game in a hurry, and that's what made me feel uneasy," Reza said.
