Monterrey, February 7.- Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda requested a postponement of the hearing scheduled by the State Congress for February 10, where he was to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission to face the impeachment proceedings to which the legislative branch intends to subject him.
Claiming that he will be on a working tour next Friday, February 10, and unable to attend, García Sepúlveda requested a postponement of the appointment the Anti-Corruption Commission had notified him to appear in the impeachment proceedings initiated against him for allegedly committing serious constitutional violations by failing to timely submit the 2023 Budget.
In the letter, which was sent today, he stated that he will be touring Washington. On social media, the state governor said he had received an invitation from Endeavor-IMG to visit Phoenix, Arizona, next Sunday. Endeavor-IMG will be in charge of Super Bowl logistics.
"By means of this letter, I would like to inform you that I have scheduled an official trip abroad, to Washington, for a working visit and to seek to attract foreign investment to the state of Nuevo León," states the letter sent to Congress.
"For this reason, I request that the hearing scheduled for February 10, 2020, by the Anti-Corruption Commission, be postponed."
In his letter, the governor claims that he is not being given enough time to review the case file against him and present his defense, and that not postponing the hearing would violate his rights.
«Furthermore», the document adds, «subject to analyzing the legality of the proceedings instituted and exercising the appropriate actions, in the opinion of the undersigned, the five days provided for in article 16, second paragraph, of the Political Trial Law of the State of Nuevo León, is an insufficient period of time to be able to analyze in detail the entire file 16283/LXXVI, in order to prepare my initial defense at the hearing to which that provision refers.
"I request this in this regard, taking into account that the document that apparently constitutes the entire file and that was attached as an annex to the summons issued to the undersigned in the impeachment proceedings instituted against me, consists of almost 400 pages, and I am not certain that it is complete to date.
